Magnesium properties: chemistry, life and esoterics<\/h5>\n

Magnesium is a chemical element with the symbol Mg and atomic number 12. It is an alkaline earth metal and the fourth-most-common element in the Earth as a whole (behind iron<\/em>, oxygen<\/em> and silicon<\/em>), making up 13% of the planet’s mass and a large fraction of the planet’s mantle. Esoterically iron, oxygen and silicon represent fire, air and earth. The logical role for magnesium would be water. Indeed, due to magnesium ion’s high solubility in water, it is the third-most-abundant<\/strong> element dissolved in seawater (Every cubic kilometer of seawater contains about 1.3 billion kilograms of magnesium). Magnesium is never found free in nature, with magnesium oxide being the most common form.<\/p>\n

\"magnesium\"Magnesium means “the shiny”. Finely divided magnesium readily ignites upon heating in air and burns with a dazzling white flame. Besides being super inflammable it is also very light weight. Since it burns at relatively low temperatures magnesium is never used alone, but frequently alloyed with aluminum. Magnesium-aluminum alloys are used where strong, lightweight materials are required, such as in airplanes, missiles and rockets.<\/p>\n

Functions of<\/a> magnesium<\/a> in human body include such important functions as: bone function, nerve and muscle relaxation and others. About two thirds of all magnesium in our body is found in our bones. Magnesium regulates more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body, one of its important functions being contribution to the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the primary energy compound of cell nuclei.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>In human body magnesium works together with calcium, as an opponent. Our bipolar world is built around oppositions and balancing them, therefore magnesium is needed to balance the action of calcium. Both minerals act as “on\/off” switch regulating the electricity flow in our cells. Magnesium serves as a chemical gate blocker – as long as there is enough magnesium around, calcium can’t rush into the nerve cell and activate the nerve. The nerve is kept relaxed.<\/p>\n

Without enough magnesium, calcium can collect in the soft tissues and cause one type of arthritis. Not only does calcium collect in the soft tissues of arthritics, it is poorly, if at all, absorbed into their blood and bones. But taking more calcium is not the answer; it only amplifies the problem. In fact, excessive calcium intake and insufficient magnesium can contribute to both of these diseases. Magnesium taken in proper dosages can solve the problem of calcium deficiency.<\/p>\n

Many foods in the modern Western diet have been depleted of this mineral.<\/a>\u00a0So we really need to supplement it. The best way of supplementation is swimming in the sea. Those who don’t have the sea in their area should take baths with Epsom salts.<\/p>\n

In astrology magnesium represents the Sun while calcium is ruled by Saturn: the giver of life versus its terminator, the limitless power versus limitation and structure. Another astrological adversary of the Sun is plan\"chlorofill\"et Mars, which rules iron. Both Sun and Mars stand for energy. But while the Sun is the embodiment of creative energy, Mars is raw energy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both elements – magnesium and iron – are essential in providing life energy to plants and animals: the molecules of hemoglobin (the oxygen transporter in\u00a0blood) and chlorophyll (which allows plants to absorb energy from light) are identical, except that the place of iron in hemoglobin is taken by magnesium in chlorophyll. Can we draw an esoteric conclusion that energy from light is a cleaner – more refined – energy source than energy from burning (oxidation)?<\/p>\n

I guess many “green” energy proponents would agree to this statement.<\/p>\n

Magnesium properties: concentrated in peridot (olivin) gemstone<\/h5>\n

These two elements – iron and magnesium – are often present together in mineral formations. One of the examples is the green peridot<\/a>. Peridot is gem-quality olivine with the Mohs hardness of 7. Olivine is a silicate mineral with a formula of (Mg, Fe)\u2082SiO\u2084. As a matter of fact, olivine combines all big four elements – iron, silicone, magnesium and oxygen! Peridot is the magnesium-rich variety of olivine and its formula approaches Mg\u2082SiO\u2084. (containing almost no iron).
\nPeridot is a stone of lightness and beauty. Only spiritual or clear-minded persons should use peridot. Today still, Catholic Bishops traditionally wear a ring of peridot and amethyst as a symbol of purity and morality, peridot being also a protector against negative emotions. It does not surprise me at all, since amethyst, ruled by Jupiter, and peridot, ruled by the Sun provide spiritual authority and protection by the power of Law – the universal law.<\/p>\n

To make the optimal use of these magical magnesium properties I made this amulet using peridot, gold (for the Sun) and silver. It represents the principle “as above so below”. The golden bubbles representing 12 magnesium electrones have been soldered to the orbits” made of silver wire. The peridot gemstone has been placed central.<\/p>\n

Update: magnesium as a supplement<\/h5>\n

For the last years following menopause, I have been not feeling my old self. Low on energy, stressed out, aches and pains, insomnia, bad sleep. In the meanwhile, I took some magnesium supplements, but they did not seem to help a lot. It turned out that the supplement form is almost as important as the content, especially when it concerns magnesium. Since I have been taking a\u00a0 high absorption chelated magnesium powder<\/a>, miracles are happening. Sleep is back, pain is gone, and I am experiencing a constant feeling of euphoria. And lots of creative ideas too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
