Description

Square sapphire ring silver gold, sterling silver ring decorated with 2 small balls of 14 k gold (upcycled).

Ring size is abt. 7,5 US, 17,8 EU
I have cut and polished this rough genuine sapphire to bring out its unique color.
The stone is abt 6×6 mm large, flat, set in sterling silver bezel.
Square sapphire ring silver gold would look nice as a standalone ring, but can also be stacked with other rings.

The name sapphire is derived from the Latin word “saphirus” and the Greek word “sapheiros”, both meaning blue. Some believe that the name sapphire is derived from its association with the planet Saturn. The name can be roughly be translated to mean “dear to the planet Saturn” in many different languages. The sapphire is the official birthstone for the month of September. But it is also the lucky stone of Jupiter and month December. Especially people born between 11 and 22 December, who are under influence of both Jupiter and Saturn benefit from wearing sapphire.

ABOUT THE STONE

This gorgeous large uncut sapphire is 100% natural and not synthetic.

However it has been glass filled/ stabilized. It means it has undergone heat treatment.
These Sapphires have been glass filled and heated to a very high temperature, this changes their appearance and improves their color, there looks like the surface has a coating on it, there is nothing on the stone, this is just the result of the heating and filling process.

Read more here about this processing technique.

I have tried to get a better picture of this gem to do it justice, pictures are taken in natural light, direct sunlight, the stones may appear brighter-lighter in the sunlight, no artificial light is used, the last pictures shows what the stone looks like when pictures are taken in direct sunlight. They show what is inside these beautiful Sapphire gemstones.

The stone has been hand polished to reveal another feature – the CHATOYANCY
Chatoyancy, known as the cat’s eye effect, is a special optical effect referring to a bright band on the surface of gemstones caused by the reflection of light. Its characteristics depend on the type, size and concentration of the inclusions. Chatoyancy is often observed in gemstones such as chrysoberyl, tourmaline and moonstone; however, it is rarely observed in sapphires. However, some of the stones, especially those originating from China, show this effect.
