Description

Garnet mica schist necklace, 10 mm oval red rhodolite in mica matrix, wrapped in sterling silver, on a custom length braided leather necklace (extra option), or just as a pendant. Total pendant size 25×15 mm

Search for garnet matrix and you will probably find just a raw garnet crystal. The reason is that making garnet mica into a pendant is challenging. The rough garnet must be wrapped or set very carefully. This is what I did with this 2×1,5 cm garnet rock. Drilled a hole and wrapped the rock in 22 g sterling silver wire. On the front, the wire is running through a sterling silver tube which matches the stone shape. The stone has been wrapped tightly and securely. However, if the pendant gets DROPPED onto a hard surface, pieces of mica can break off. Be aware of this fact!

I applied absolutely no other processing to this gorgeous garnet mica schist necklace. Not even polished the rough edges which emerged when the crystal was cut off from the rock bed. So you see that the stone has some cutoff edge. This is what you get. Raw garnet, absolutely unique.

Garnet is the birthstone for January, so it would make a nice birthday gift.

The Garnet mica schist necklace is without chain but can be supplied with a chain as an option

This Garnet variation rhodolite originates from the Urals mountains, Russia.

The word schist is derived from the Greek word schízein meaning “to split”, which is a reference to the ease with which schists can be split along the plane in which the platy minerals lie. A schist is a medium to coarse-grained, foliated, metamorphic rock typically containing muscovite, biotite, chlorite, and quartz. When tectonic plates collide, the rocks caught in the middle become squished and heated transforming from shales into a variety of foliated metamorphic rocks.
